WorldSkills Australia Cloud Computing Regional - 2026
Gold Medallist · 1st place · 95/100
On the 15th of May 2026, I competed in the WorldSkills Australia Cloud Computing Regional. I received Gold, placed 1st and scored 95/100. I entered with very limited formal cloud training against a field that included many competitors with formal qualifications so the result was a useful practical signal rather than only a certificate line. The competition focused on practical AWS cloud infrastructure under time pressure, with the result depending on careful requirements reading, correct service configuration, troubleshooting and verification.
Result
Gold Medallist, 1st place and 95/100 in the WorldSkills Australia Cloud Computing Regional 2026.
Practical cloud work
Built and verified AWS infrastructure using services such as VPC, EC2, RDS, load balancing and Auto Scaling.
Direction
Confirmed cloud and infrastructure as genuine strengths and as a useful entry point into security engineering, platform security and infrastructure reliability.
Focus
- Reading infrastructure requirements carefully and matching the implementation to the task.
- Configuring networking, compute, databases, scaling, routing, access and health checks under time pressure.
- Verifying that deployed infrastructure behaves correctly rather than only appearing functional.
- Preparing mostly through AWS Academy and hands-on lab material rather than a formal cloud qualification with attention to details such as names, network ranges, availability zones, security groups, public/private placement, keys and health checks.
- Continuing the WorldSkills pathway while preparing for the Cyber Security Regional.
- I was and am still very grateful to WorldSkills Australia, TAFE Queensland, Amazon Web Services and Dr Elankayer Sithirasenan for supporting the competition and pathway.
